Urban Folk is a Russian electronic and jazz-fusion project founded by drummer and composer Eugene Ryaboy, a prominent figure in the Russian jazz scene. Blending his background in acoustic improvisation with an interest in electronic sound design, Ryaboy created a project that explores the intersection of rhythm, texture, and atmosphere.
The group’s 2018 release, Floating Meters, showcases this unique fusion - combining live percussion, ambient layers, and subtle harmonic movement into long, immersive compositions. The album reflects Ryaboy’s signature approach: precise rhythmic control paired with spacious, meditative soundscapes.
Urban Folk stands as an experimental extension of Ryaboy’s broader musical career, bridging contemporary jazz sensibilities with modern electronic production and improvisational freedom.
